Sweet Valley apples are a registered trademark of De Villiers Sitrus As Apples are known to grow vigorously in the Western Cape and free state, there is a handful of farmers that tested the waters and then planted some orchards in Limpopo. Where the Free state season starts Middle January and Western Cape end of March our Colder Winters and hotter wet summers allow the Limpopo farmers to reap fruit from Beginning of Decembers Looking at cold units and frost resistance we established Our first apple Orchards in 2018, In 2020 we exported our first apples. The Apple trees although still young bear a good crop with good yields.
Our apple cultivars are:
Afri-Star-Oblong
Consistent fruit symmetry and shape consistency.
Colour: Striped red blush on yellow ground colour (60 to 90% coverage)
Taste and texture: Sweet, medium juice contents with crisp texture, not becoming mealy+
Afri–Glo - Oblong
Colour: Striped pink-red blush on yellow ground colour (50 to 80% coverage)
Taste and texture: Sweet taste, medium juiciness with fine crisp texture
Afri Ruby
Full striped, red on yellow ground colour (50 to 90% coverage) White flesh.
Taste and texture: Balanced taste, good aroma and good juice contents and with firm, crisp texture

AJ de Villiers farming consists of Citrus (Navels Valencia’s and Lemons) 44 Ha which is in full production and the reaping and packing is from middle March till middle August with 70 percent of the crop being under netting means that 95 percent of fruit are being exported and the other 5percent is for local markets.
